Whale Coast Conservation brought its sustainable energy road show – funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund – to two more Hermanus schools. Zwelihle Primary hosted the Expo on Friday 20th and Hermanus High was the venue on Monday 23rdJuly.
Zwelihle Primary School premises were perfect – modern and well-managed. The whole school participated with enthusiasm, from Grade R all the way to educators and Principal. It was a real pleasure for WCC to be there.
Hermanus High gymnasium proved to be another successful venue. Learners from Hermanus Private Pre- and Primary School, Bosko Christian School, Northcliff House College and several groups of home-scholars visited the Expo in the morning. Learners from Hermanus High and Primary as well as the public were invited to attend after school hours.
There was something for all ages – from pre-school to grandparents. The 10 exhibits, which follow the school curriculum, illustrated in fun ways the concept of energy and the different sources and kinds of energy.
Although fewer learners from the Hermanus schools were able to attend compared to expos in Gansbaai, Stanford, Mt Pleasant and Zwelihle, they were interested, well-informed and interacted enthusiastically with the exhibits and the ‘demonstrators’. Many expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to experience book-learning in a more practical form and so consolidate their understanding of the principles that were being illustrated.
