HERMANUS BYPASS ROAD EIA
To pass or not to pass, that is the question

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Hermanus Bypass has been released for comment. It comprises 1,500 pages and Interested and Affected Parties (IAPs) have until 3 July to submit their comments. In summary, the EIA consultants have concluded that the northern alignment of the bypass (on the Fernkloof side of the Sports Complex) should be approved. The no-go option is summarily dismissed.

The bypass will cut through parts of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, north of Mountain Drive, and part of a wetland. The SA National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) has labelled this area of the Reserve a Critical Biodiversity Area, while the wetland on the Hermanus Golf Course is an Ecological Support Area.

Members of the general public as welcome to attend. Individuals who wish to submit comments must please register as an IAP.
