Full marks to the Arts Working Group of the Hermanus Tourism Board and Whale Coast Conservation for a superb RR&R art project on Monday evening at the Civic Auditorium.
The artworks, made from discarded items (not “rubbish” but rather source material, as one judge said) were inventive, attractive and obviously labours of love. There was humour and pathos, brutal fact and fairy fancy – and lots of hard work.
Even the prize-giving was fun. A thoughtful presentation on sun power in the home was followed by an eco-saga movingly delivered by Louis van Heerden. We heard promise of a massive art window-dressing competition to come at Christmas; and the RR&R project will be repeated next year, so look out for it. Things are happening in our naturally-beautiful, art-enhanced Hermanus!
