Earth Hour 2014 – Schools Art Competition

1

On Saturday 29 March from 20h30 to 21h30 the lights will again be turned down as we symbolically show unity with at least 7,000 cities and towns in 150 countries who are all saying, “I care about my planet!”

Here in Hermanus we are also promoting the message that doing small things in our daily lives can make a big difference to a sustainable future for our own community. Whale Coast Conservation invites the public to celebrate Earth Hour 2014 with a fabulous concert and moonlight market at Fisherman’s Village.

Whale Coast Conservation invites all schools to participate in an art competition in support of our vision for Earth Hour 2014. The theme is the importance of our planet’s wetlands in general and the restoration of the wetland at Grotto Beach in particular. The specific theme for primary schools is “I care about my Planet” and for high schools it is “Wonderful Wetlands”.

Art works should be at least A3 in size (paintings), using any medium. Sculptures and models are also welcome. Art will be judged in 2 categories: Primary schools and High schools. Generous prizes of cash and/or art materials will be awarded to the winning artists. The closing date for entries is Thursday 20th March.
All artwork must be submitted at the greenhouse, before 16:00 on the closing date.

All the works of art will be displayed at the Earth Hour concert at Fisherman’s Village and the winners will be announced during the evening celebrations.

If you need more information on either the art competition or the Grotto wetland, please contact Delray or Sheraine.
