Baby Loggerhead Turtles, (Careta careta) have recently been found washed up on Cape beaches, including some in Hermanus. These turtles breed along the northern Kwa Zulu Natal beaches and do not normally occur in our cold water. Wind and rough seas have probably driven them off course. They are highly endangered and rescued babies are taken to the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town by CapeNature from where they are returned to warmer east coast waters.
