Did You Know

The Blushing Bride, Seruria florida, also called the Pride of Franschhoek, is one of our most beautiful Proteaceae species. It occurs naturally only on the Franschhoek side of the Hottentots-Holland Nature Reserve. It is critically endangered by alien invasive species and too frequent fires. These beautiful flowers are pollinated by insects and seeds are dispersed by ants that carry them to their underground nests where they form the seed bank, only germinating after fire. S. florida makes a wonderful addition to a fynbos garden. It is water-wise and requires a well-drained, sunny position.
