Whale Coast Conservation’s Shirley Volkwyn led a team of enthusiastic learners at Gansbaai Primêr in their contribution to International Coastal Cleanup month.
Although the school is not exactly on the coast, they all know that litter on land eventually lands up in the sea. As a fishing community, looking after the ocean that is their livelihood and also sustains life on land is one of their priorities.
The learners collected litter in those areas that are difficult to reach.
Shirley helped the learners to sort, analyse and tally the litter. This information will be used to inform learners of how to dispose of litter more effectively and will also be forwarded to the ICC for collation with international data.
