Fluvial means ‘of the river’ or ‘found in a river’. Moving water is very powerful. Rivers are always at work changing the channel they flow in and the landscape surrounding them.
Drainage density is a measure of how well a basin is drained by rivers. The more extensive the network of streams, the higher the drainage density will be.
Discharge of a river means the speed and volume of the river’s flow.
Stream means little river in everyday understandings but in Geography it means any channel that water flows in.
A drainage pattern refers to the river network and depends very much on the topography of the land where the river is found and the nature of the underlying rock.

The Orange River is South Africa’s largest river with its source in the Lesotho highlands. Its catchment area covers nearly half of the country.
